On the year of its 25th anniversary, Christian Fennesz’s monolithic debut album Hotel Paral.lel receives a remaster and reissue from Editions Mego. Bundled with the equally exhilarating Instrument EP, Hotel Paral.lel’s abstracted chasms of raw sound are still as otherworldly as they were in 1997. Microbeats sizzle as the faintest semblances of melody surface amongst the glitchscape, bathed in piercing noise, electrical hum, and shredded guitars. The tortured disco-ish pulses of ‘Fa’ seem like a precursor to modern vaporwave, and are just one of Fennesz’s many stamps on the ever evolving electronic scene.
