Rara vez dos tipos de música se encuentran en un nivel en el que amenazan anularse entre sí, y mucho menos crear algo aún más significativo en su mutua desaparición. Pero la música creada en Murder Ballads (Drift) de Martyn Bates (Eyeless in Gaza, y carrera solista paralela) y Mick Harris (Napalm Death, Lull, Painkiller,El desprecio) crea un mundo así. Murder Ballads (Drift) creó el marco de referencia del “post-aislacionismo” que partía del “ambient aislacionista”, oscuro y gélido. En este álbum se innova en una forma verdaderamente original y deslumbrantemente única. Mick Harris trafica en el ambiente aislacionista de Lull, mientras que Martyn Bates es la voz emotiva del dúo de pop de culto literario Eyeless en Gaza.
La improbable pareja, una más dada a drones terminalmente gélidos, la otra a voces apasionadas y agridulces, encuentra puntos en común en la tradición más macabra de la música, la balada del asesinato.
Drift (editado originalmente en 1994 por el notable sello italiano Musica Maxima Magnetica, que también vendimos en su día en Rotor), juega un papel fundamental en el ciclo atemporal de folklore sangriento y paisajes sonoros hipnóticos. En 2021, resurgiendo casi veinte años después, Murder Ballads (Drift) todavía permanece en un área ignorada por otros artistas, un área que realmente sigue siendo única. RECOMENDADO
