Throbbing Gristle es una de las bandas más confrontacionales política y sónicamente de todos los tiempos, y ha dejado un impacto incomparable que todavía hoy se puede percibir en la música. Su sello Industrial Records acabó dando nombre no sólo a un estilo de música (del que renegaban por mimético) sino a toda una subcultura.
