Japón es un país único por innumerables razones y la música electrónica japonesa siempre ha sido algo muy especial. Durante los últimos años 70 y principios de los 80, un grupo de proyectos, bandas y pequeñas discográficas, concentradas principalmente en Tokio y Osaka, crearon música electrónica influenciada por el post-punk, la nueva ola y la escena experimental procedente de Europa y América del Norte. Todos estos artistas y músicos trataron de emular sus influencias para crear algo personal, siguiendo la ética DIY y utilizando la tecnología que tenían a su alcance. Una buena parte de esta escena de se mantuvo hermética y secreta del resto del mundo y solo unos pocos tuvieron la oportunidad de descubrirla a través de algunos casetes, flexis y algunos discos lanzados en sellos privados sin ninguna distribución fuera de Japón. Algunas de estas gemas perdidas de "minimal-synth-wave” han sido rescatadas y ahora compiladas en "Nihon No Wave".
